James Harris at Utility Week Live - the relationship of streetworks to traffic disruption
James Harris, Managing Director at Elgin, presented on the relationship of streetworks to traffic disruption at the recent Utility Week Live 2018 event.
Increasing cars on the road, more van and taxi drivers, construction, poor infrastructure, and streetworks are all variously blamed for congestion – which leads to delays and lost productivity.
The recent Utility Week Live 2018 event, looked at how we can find out the real causes of congestion.
This session explored what the data tells us and best practice approaches for minimising congestion and journey times.
James focused on the relationship of streetworks to traffic disruption using data collected by roadworks.org Real-Time services - the first largescale empirical exercise to establish the link between congestion and streetworks.
In it, he looks at what this data can tell us to answer such questions as
- How much do streetworks contribute to congestion?
- How do different organisations/sectors contribute to congestion?
- What are the regional patterns?
- What are the characteristics of works that cause the worst delays?
