Even though ELGIN is the custodian of a critical part of national transport infrastructure it receives no funding from central Government or other funded aid.
ELGIN supports the roadworks.org local roadworks portal by the providing services to local authority and utility clients and through subscriptions from participating local authorities. Though a private company, ELGIN manages roadworks.org and adheres to public sector standards of governance and a commitment to free and open data.
ELGIN's management recognised that it needed investors who satisfied the following characteristics:
- they were prepared to fund a business with a Governance commitment to act in the public interest
- they did not represent entrenched interests in the streetworks software and asset management community which would potentially compromise ELGIN's neutrality
- they recognise ELGIN's role in opening up roadworks information so that it is free at the point of use wherever possible
Our Investors share a commitment to the aims of Open Data and an understanding of the importance of ELGIN's neutrality in the value chain.
